Kunming Institute of Zoology Chinese Academy of Science | China

Dr. Adeniyi Charles Adeola is an Associate Professor and evolutionary and conservation geneticist at the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a joint appointment at Bayero University, Nigeria. His research focuses on leveraging Africa’s rich genomic diversity to address global challenges in food security, emerging diseases, and biodiversity conservation. He leads international, multi-million-dollar projects that integrate genomics, conservation biology, Population Genetics and sustainable agriculture. Dr. Adeola’s work spans the discovery of genetic markers for disease resistance - including African Swine Fever Virus and prion-related diseases - mapping adaptive evolution in African livestock, and applying genomic tools to document biodiversity and phylogeographic patterns in vertebrates. He also develops innovative genomic technologies, such as target-capture sequencing platforms, to enhance pathogen surveillance and conservation research. A committed mentor and scientific leader, he actively strengthens research capacity across Africa and Asia while advancing transformative insights in evolutionary genetics and genome diversity.
